Prison is a place where government keeps the criminals by separating them from the rest of the society. Criminals are those who defy the laws and goes against the political regime. From the ancient times these prisons holds the special place in the history.

Kings used to keep the criminals in those prisons for the time being until they are either executed or given a penalty. Now, the governments around the world are using prisons to keep the criminals either serving their time or those who are still waiting charges and sentence. Many famous figures have served into these prisons like Nelson Mandela & John McCain. These prison’s not only housed notorious cirminals but also served as House Of Slaves.

Few prisons came to limelight due to daring escapes, barbaric treatments or even cruelty towards the inmates. Few of those prisons are now a tourist spots. Following is a list of top 10 such infamous prisons around the world.

1. Tower of London, London:

Tower of London is a famous prison in London where few of the very famous person were kept like Thomas More, Anne Boleyn, King Henry VI, Rudolph Hess and even Catherine Howard who was the wife of King Henry VI. Ironical isn’t it. Now, it has become the home to British crown Jewels with a status of most haunted building in entire England.

2. Alcatraz, California, USA:

Alcatraz was very famous Military & Federal prison which has now become a famous tourist spot. Alcatraz was the the first maximum security minimum privilege prison of the country. This prison is also know as The Rock which was the title of Nicholas Cage The Rock Movie.

3. Chateau d’If Prison, France:

Mentioned in the Book “The Count of Monte Cristo” by Alexander Dumas, Chateau served as a prison to hold the political and religious prison. Wealthy people used to get the better treatment than the poor. This is the most famous prison of entire France.
4. Robben Island, South Africa:

Robben Island is very famous prison in South Africa which housed famous persons like Nelson Mandela and Kgalema Motlanthe. It has become a famous tourist spots which you can see by taking a ferry from Cape Town.

5. Tuol Sleng Genocide Prison, Cambodia:

One of the most horrifying prisons in the world where more than 17,000 people were tortured, executed duing the rise of Rouge Regime. Now, Tuol Sleng Genocide Prison is turned into a historical museum to remember the actions & cruelty of Khmer Rouge regime.

6. Goree Island, Senegal:

Once house of slaves, Goree Island have seen people turned into slaves which will later sent to other countries. This prison is now turned into a museum to serves as a pilgrimage site for many African-Americans tracing their roots.
7. Elmina Castle, Ghana:

Being the oldest European building, it served to house slaves who are captured to be sold to other countries. The rooms where more than 200 people were kept, there were not enough space to even lie down. History tells us that more than 30,000 slaves were kept here and later sold to other countries.
8. Hanoi Hilton, Hanoi:

This prison was built to keep Vietnamese prisoners who defied the French Law. The prisoners passes through extreme torture, murder and starvation. Famous figures like Senator John McCain (later ran for US presidential bid) and James Stockdale have served here as a prisoner of war.
9. Four Seasons Hotel (Sultanahmet Jail), Istanbul:

Sultanahmet Jail was built to keep intellectual dissidents and writers who defied or didn’t agreed to Ottoman Empire. Later the prisoners were transferred to Sagmalcilar prison which used to keep the military offenders. Later Sultanahmet Jail was purchased by Four Seasons and now its a Five star Hotel in Istanbul.
10. Devil’s Island, French Guiana:

This is one of the infamous prison where hardened criminals and political criminals were kept in Napolean III’s reign. Many priosoner planned an escape but in vain. This prison is very well described in the movie Papillon by Dustin Hoffman.

Switzerland and Belgium may be the worldâ€™s most famous chocolate-making countries, but tinyArmenia has just stolen some of their spotlight by creating the largest chocolate bar, ever.

The sweet event took place in Armeniaâ€™s capital of Yerevan, and was organized by the Grand Candy Factory â€“ a local chocolate making company â€“ as a way to celebrate to celebrate its 10 years of existence. Guinness Book representatives were invited to take part in the unveiling of the chocolate monster created, and to make sure this event goes into the record books.

The giant chocolate bar weighs 4,400 kilograms, is 224 inches long, 110 inches wide, 10 inches thick and is made from cocoa beans from Ghana. In the following weeks, the worldâ€™s biggest chocolate down will be chipped into pieces and handed out to freely around Yerevan. The previous record for the worldâ€™s biggest chocolate bar was set in 2007, in Italy.

The Tram Which You Never Seen Before !!!!

Vehicles of transport have long been celebrated in Pakistan, adorned with elaborate decorations to keep good spirits with the journey. A fleet of particularly vibrant mini-buses ply the Karachi route called W-11, characterized by stainless-steel panels, brightly colored plastic collages, flashing light patterns, music beats and exuberant conductors. As part of the Commonwealth Games, a group of Pakistani bus decorators transformed a Melbourne Tram into what you would expect to see on a Karachi bus routes.

Decorated trams are nothing new to the people of Melbourne, but this tram is different, it's not about advertising, it's about celebrating life. As the words written in Urdu and translated in English emblazoned down the side read "Love is Life". A ride on this tram is not about getting somewhere; it's about really being moved.

And the people of and visitors to Melbourne can't get enough of it! So what does the tram look like? Based on the decorated buses that traverse the city of Karachi, the tram is covered in brightly colored self-adhesive stickers that have been cut out by hand and make intricate patterns.

No part of the tram has been left undecorated as there are beads hanging from the ceiling and even multi-colored tassels hanging from the rear view mirrors. A Each seat also has a cover with a design that incorporates both the Pakistan and Australian flag representing the relationship between the two countries.

Responsible for the initiative were Wajid Ali and his team of decorators, who spent four months in Karachi cutting out the stickers and putting together the decorations. They came to Melbourne and spent another six weeks at the Preston Tram Workshops applying the decorations to the 30-year-old Z class tram which is just about to be retire.

A famous French shipbuilder ship company and one of Monaco joined hands together to build this yacht with enormous dimensions: the WHY 58x38. (58meter long and 38 meter wide) After the first pictures of this project.

The yacht, an area of 3400 m2 with seating for 12 passengers and 20 crew. This is a "green" yacht.

Wally et Hermès use green energy to 20 to 30% fuel savings and 40 to 50% electricity consumption on board. Therefore there are 900 m2 equipped with solar panels, producing a daily output of 500 kW. Equipment:

Three decks, a 25 meter pool, a spa helicopterpad a 100m2 with hammam, sauna, gym and massage room, a promenade of 130 meter, a music room, a dining room, a cinema, sun decks, suites, terraces, a lounge, a bibi . The luxury is at the rendez-vous. The decks are connected by stairs but there is also an elevator. The suite of the owner (I.e. IKEA!!!!!):

With an area of 200m2 and completely covers the third deck. (This is the bedroom) The sea view is great and there is a private terrace of 25 meter long. A sea of light.

The yacht has the shape of a horseshoe and has a roof so everything is bathed in a sea of light. The spacious lounge.

On the lower deck are the common premises, such as lounge, piano bar and dining area ..... Dining Room

For the guests, 5 suites with sea views (on the middendek). There is also a reading room equipped.

A very unusual hotel has opened its doors in the city of Kaiserslautern, Germany.

It is situated in the former building of the city jail.

Customers actually sleep in a cell where windows have also bars.

The toilet is located right in the room as in an ordinary prison cell.

The only difference with a real prison is that it’s a free entry and exit; it’s possible to use a phone whenever you want and you can have excellent food.

Furniture from weapons is a project started after more than 30 years of civil war, ending in 1998, the Cambodian gouvernment destroyed 125,000 weapons across the country. In this time a small arms specialist with the European Union, and British artist Sasha Constable, saw an opportunity, and decided to create The Peace Art Project Cambodia (PAPC) in November 2003. The Peace Art Project Cambodia was a sculpture project turning weapons into art as expressions of peace. In Cambodia this is the most beautiful way to get rid of weapons – transform them in furniture. From these pictures this furniture doesn’t look to comfortable, but for a good cause they are excelent.
