Sony Ericsson Dials Sustainability With GreenHeart Phones
Mobile gadget-maker Sony Ericsson on Thursday unveiled a pair of cell phones the company said furthers its commitment to sustainable electronic innovation. The new models were both released as part of the company’s GreenHeart concept, which eliminates “the use of hazardous chemicals” in both the product and its manufacturing process.
The C901 GreenHeart and Naite phones feature recycled plastic cases and an embedded light sensor that helps the screen use less power in sunny conditions. An electronic, in-phone manual replaces the need for paper instructions, a conservation move the company said will dramatically curb waste. The C901 comes in white and is expected to launch in the second quarter. The Naite comes in red and silver and is expected to launch by the third quarter of 2009. Both are quad-band GSM phones that center around a giant, 5-megapixel Cyber-shot camera. [via sonyericsson]
